The workplace is constantly reinventing itself, demanding new technology to make enterprise collaboration and sharing much easier. In a hectic work environment, space can be limited and hooking up technology can be time consuming. That’s why growing businesses need more convenient and technology packed spaces accessible for conferencing and presenting.
Huddle rooms are small, interactive rooms that help increase productivity through state-of-the-art technology, and unite coworkers for presenting, collaborating, and decision making. With Crestron solutions, these small spaces become powerful, and can make any meeting or presentation easier than ever before.
One amazing Crestron solution for a huddle room is the Crestron Connect It Cable Caddy, TT-100. When you’re in a huddle room with other coworkers and you need to show them a spread sheet or presentation, you want to be able to connect devices fast and hassle-free. The TT-100 is easy to set up and allows you to connect devices through HDMI®, VGA, Audio, and Ethernet. Each connector cable is stored in the TT-100, so you can pull out the cable and simply plug it in to your device. After it’s plugged in, press the button on the interface and your content is instantly shown on the display. You can toggle between connected devices by pressing the button on the caddy. The TT-100 integrates seamlessly with DigitalMedia™, is 4K compatible, and comes in four different models.
At the heart of every huddle room is a system that controls it all. The Crestron 3-Series® 4K DigitaMedia Presentation System 150 (DMPS3-4K-150-C), as well as the 4K Scaling Presentation Switcher (HD-MD8X1-4K) and the 4K Scaling Presentation Switcher with HDBaseT® Output (DM-MD8X1-4K-C), are nothing short of perfection with the ability to easily and seamlessly connect and control any device in the room, as well as manage and switch between multiple AV sources. They support resolutions up to 4096x2160 and have a built-in Crestron Connect It functionality, so you can connect up to four TT-100 interfaces. These systems can be mounted under a table or in an equipment rack, making the huddle room look clean and tech-free and are already integrated with Crestron Fusion® software so even simple huddle spaces can be managed on the network. These systems are ready to go right out of the box with no necessary programming thanks to .AV Framework™, the grounding breaking OS and plug-and-play solution that allows for easy setup straight from an iPad®, laptop, or the preloaded 7” touch screen (TSW-752-B-DMPS3_PAK). Adding more power and convenience to your huddle room, these switchers automatically know when a source is connected to AirMedia™, making wireless BYOD presentation fast and simple. Simply turn it on, connect a device, and present.
As you enter the huddle room you take out your smartphone, which you always have on you, open your email with the presentation in it, and seamlessly display the content from your phone to the room display through the Crestron AirMedia app.
With AirMedia, you can share content wirelessly via iOS® or Android™ mobile device, any Mac® or Windows® notebook, and tablets. AirMedia can connect up to 32 devices and features ‘moderator mode,’ which allows a host to keep meetings productive and control whose content is being displayed, whether from a web page or huddle room touch screen. The AirMedia app can also be silently deployed to computers across the enterprise, saving a tremendous amount of time and ensuring everyone in your organization is able to connect and present with a single mouse click.
Crestron offers many solutions to provide the ultimate huddle room. Crestron offers Unified Communications solutions specifically designed for huddle rooms or smaller conference rooms. Driven by the new Crestron RL™ 2 Codec, Crestron UC Package 1 includes the TS-1051-C touch screen, a camera, an all-in-one speakerphone, as well as cables and under-table mounting hardware. This package enables video group collaboration, connecting people from across the room or around the world. With Crestron, it’s easy.

4K is becoming one of the biggest tech terms of the year. Now that 4K product prices have dropped, people are more interested in what it is and how it’s different from full HD. So, what exactly is 4K, how is it going to change the way we watch TV, and what does it mean for Crestron?
The term 4K refers to the amount of pixels in a display and comes in two resolutions: the cinema standard and Ultra HD. The cinema standard has a display resolution of 4096x2160p, while Ultra HD, made for bigger consumer displays, consists of 3840x2160p. Even though both of these resolutions are considered 4K, the cinema standard has slightly more pixels for the larger theater screen. 4K ultimately got its name by having roughly 4,000 pixels.
A 4K display has four times the amount of pixels in a 1080p display, totaling in about 8.3 million pixels. The pixels in a 4K display are smaller than lower resolution displays, which makes the picture sharper, and gives smoother motion and tighter detail. Even 2K content being played on a 4K display shows a clearer picture.
Many people are starting to notice that more 4K products are hitting the market and at a lower price. So, is making the switch to 4K now worth it? Absolutely.
If you’re in the market for a new big-screen TV, odds are most of the displays you will see are 4K. If you walk into a Best Buy®, finding a 2K television is going to be difficult. Many companies are pushing 4K displays since prices are affordable, causing lower resolution displays to become obsolete.
While 4K content isn’t everywhere, streaming services like Netflix® will continue to offer more 4K shows and movies over time. Sources, such as UHD Blu-Ray™ players, should be released by the end of 2015. Cable services will also be joining the 4K movement by the end of the year with ‘over-the-top’ services, where they use internet streaming to a set-top box, rather than cable TV.
Business wise, many new laptops come with resolutions higher than 2K. Presenting something from a high resolution laptop to a 2K display during a business meeting will often distort what’s being presented on the screen. Hooking a laptop up to a larger display is becoming more popular, making screen compatibility extremely important.
Here at Crestron, we understand the importance of seamlessly displaying high definition content from 4K sources throughout your organization or home. Crestron DigitalMedia™ is the only fully engineered, field-proven, end-to-end solution for managing and distributing digital AV and control signals. Whether you have one room or a thousand rooms, DM® delivers pure high-definition, including 4K Ultra HD, to every display.
Crestron is always ready to handle the next big thing. In fact, Crestron DigitalMedia switchers are capable of handling 4K and have been since 2008. If you haven’t made the switch to 4K yet, get started with the complete line of 4K DM products. As the first end-to-end 4K distribution system, 4K DM ensures the highest video quality with zero latency. Along with the recent price drop in 4K displays, Crestron also lowered the price of select 4K DM products to provide you with an affordable and reliable system.
If you already have DM, you don’t need to buy a whole new system for 4K compatibility. To upgrade an existing system, simply swap in new 4K I/O cards and 4K endpoints.
To eliminate 4K compatibility issues, Crestron offers a 4K certification program where Crestron engineers test 4K sources and displays in the DigitalMedia Lab. Products that become certified work perfectly with an integrated system and have the Crestron 4K certified logo. Some companies with Crestron certified products include Apple®, Sony®, Panasonic®, and more. To learn more about Crestron 4K certification, click here.

After spending a long weekend with a 38MM stainless steel Apple Watch™, I started off a little skeptical about how a device like this might fit into life, either as a cool gadget, or functional tool. Based off of my personal use of the watch, here is my experience and reaction to wearable technology.
The initial sync doesn’t make it clear what’s happening, and took about 30 minutes to get all of my relevant data over to the watch. As usual, the packaging was perfect and the watch came about 85 percent charged. When I started the pairing process, I noticed the watch has a “point cloud” floating around on the screen. All you do is point the iPhone® camera at the watch and voila, it’s paired. Whether or not the point cloud conveys some sort of information to the device, it appears amazing.
The watch is constantly off and it was a little awkward getting used to the gesture to wake it up. This is especially noticeable when I’m sitting at my desk reading a document and want to see the time. With a regular watch, it’s easy. With the Apple Watch, I have to do some strange wrist gesture to turn the display on. Driving home, I realized that the same motion that I used to turn my car to the right is the gesture that the watch is looking for to turn on, resulting in the watch being on for most my ride home. It didn’t appear to impact the battery too severely.
The battery is a special concern for me and I can’t help but worry if it will last for a full day. My first few days of testing this device resulted in using it far more than I normally would. I recognize my abnormally high use right now, but I still can’t help but monitor the draining battery life. The good news is that the watch charges remarkably fast and I was able to go from about 35 percent to 95 percent in under an hour.
Unless you cull the list of notifications going to the watch, your wrist will feel like everyone who walks by is tapping it. Because I went through the effort of picking the things that could get to my wrist, I know it’s something important I want to see quickly; the watch allows me to do that – quick wrist flip, I have an appointment in 15 minutes, wrist down, done.
This is where we get to what it means for Crestron. I won’t be hyperbolic and say that our watch solution will define the future of the company, but I would go as far to say, the kinds of things I want to show up on my watch are the kinds of things that will shape the future of our business. This is an opportunity for us to leverage our technology and make homeowners feel more connected to their homes:
Apple® sold millions of these devices and people are going to expect that we do something smart with them so that their watch can have value. I believe it’s up to us to make devices like this valuable through higher level intelligence that we gather through our technology. Highly personal devices like the watch are the future of smart homes and connected home-owners.

We at Crestron extend a special thank you to all those who visited and spent time at our booth during LightFair International 2015 in New York City. We had an amazing time meeting everyone and sharing information.
highlights. We showcased a game-changing approach to lighting control system design, where all you need to know are the needs of the space, nothing more. No more wading through technical specifications or dealing with complex programming!
Throughout the conference, a full curriculum of lighting and design education, from lighting basics to advanced lighting control system designs, was presented. The expo showcased more new and exciting lighting products and technologies than ever before! Many attendees told us they are focused on getting the most out of LED fixtures, such as energy efficiency, proper dimming, and color temperature adjustments. Of course, this led to a lot of questions about how to navigate all the different types of lighting control systems.
This breakthrough solution is Crestron SpaceBuilder and the reaction from attendees was overwhelming! We demonstrated how SpaceBuilder dramatically reduces the time required to complete each phase of a lighting control project. Attendees were wowed that a lighting control system could be designed so easily, and in the same way that fixtures are specified – for any size space.
Here are just a few of the SpaceBuilder advantages:
We also showed our simple to use online filter that allows you to select the optimal SpaceBuilder system for your lighting design. These systems were all on display at our booth – here are a few highlighted system video demos from the show floor:
