The Crestron Huddle Room

Posted by Dan Jackson on Jul 23, 2015 11:00:00 AM

huddle roomThe workplace is constantly reinventing itself, demanding new technology to make enterprise collaboration and sharing much easier. In a hectic work environment, space can be limited and hooking up technology can be time consuming. That’s why growing businesses need more convenient and technology packed spaces accessible for conferencing and presenting.

Huddle rooms are small, interactive rooms that help increase productivity through state-of-the-art technology, and unite coworkers for presenting, collaborating, and decision making. With Crestron solutions, these small spaces become powerful, and can make any meeting or presentation easier than ever before.

Crestron Connect It™ (TT-100)

One amazing Crestron solution for a huddle room is the Crestron Connect It Cable Caddy, TT-100. When you’re in a huddle room with other coworkers and you need to show them a spread sheet or presentation, you want to be able to connect devices fast and hassle-free. The TT-100 is easy to set up and allows you to connect devices through HDMI®, VGA, Audio, and Ethernet. Each connector cable is stored in the TT-100, so you can pull out the cable and simply plug it in to your device. After it’s plugged in, press the button on the interface and your content is instantly shown on the display. You can toggle between connected devices by pressing the button on the caddy. The TT-100 integrates seamlessly with DigitalMedia™, is 4K compatible, and comes in four different models.

Huddle Room Presentation Switchers

At the heart of every huddle room is a system that controls it all.  The Crestron 3-Series® 4K DigitaMedia Presentation System 150 (DMPS3-4K-150-C), as well as the 4K Scaling Presentation Switcher (HD-MD8X1-4K) and the 4K Scaling Presentation Switcher with HDBaseT® Output (DM-MD8X1-4K-C), are nothing short of perfection with the ability to easily and seamlessly connect and control any device in the room, as well as manage and switch between multiple AV sources. They support resolutions up to 4096x2160 and have a built-in Crestron Connect It functionality, so you can connect up to four TT-100 interfaces. These systems can be mounted under a table or in an equipment rack, making the huddle room look clean and tech-free and are already integrated with Crestron Fusion® software so even simple huddle spaces can be managed on the network. These systems are ready to go right out of the box with no necessary programming thanks to .AV Framework™, the grounding breaking  OS and plug-and-play solution that allows for easy setup straight from an iPad®, laptop, or the preloaded 7” touch screen (TSW-752-B-DMPS3_PAK).  Adding more power and convenience to your huddle room, these switchers automatically know when a source is connected to AirMedia™, making wireless BYOD presentation fast and simple. Simply turn it on, connect a device, and present.

AirMedia (AM-100)

As you enter the huddle room you take out your smartphone, which you always have on you, open your email with the presentation in it, and seamlessly display the content from your phone to the room display through the Crestron AirMedia app.

With AirMedia, you can share content wirelessly via iOS® or Android™ mobile device, any Mac® or Windows® notebook, and tablets. AirMedia can connect up to 32 devices and features ‘moderator mode,’ which allows a host to keep meetings productive and control whose content is being displayed, whether from a web page or huddle room touch screen. The AirMedia app can also be silently deployed to computers across the enterprise, saving a tremendous amount of time and ensuring everyone in your organization is able to connect and present with a single mouse click.

Crestron and HDCP 2.x: A Product Priority

Posted by Dan Jackson on Jun 9, 2015 9:29:00 AM

crestron4k certifiedWhen HDMI® hit the market, we were all introduced to the trials and tribulations of dealing with HDCP. 2K video and HDCP have been smooth sailing for a while, and along comes 4K and HDCP 2.2.

What does this mean for professional distributed video systems? So far, nothing just yet. There’s very little content that is protected by 2.2, but Crestron isn’t waiting. We are implementing HDCP 2.2 in all of our new 4K products.

The Low Down

To protect digital media, Intel® created HDCP, high-bandwidth digital content protection. With digital media constantly changing, content providers decided to step it up a notch with the latest form of copy protection, HDCP 2.2. It is designed to provide better copy protection mechanisms than HDCP 1.x (which wasn’t very strong) and is intended to be used for 4K content.

Licensed by Digital Content Protection, LLC, HDCP 2.2 is backwards compatible so you can run HDCP 1.x content over a link that supports HDCP 2.2. The version only matters if you have high value content that requires 2.2 for the entire signal path. If 2.2 isn’t present for the entire signal path, you won’t get a picture.

In today’s world, we are really talking about theory, not reality. There is only one AV source on the market that requires HDCP 2.2, the Sony FMP-X10 media player (which is built by a company that runs movie studios). 4K Blu-Ray™ displays are in the works, but aren’t expected to be ready until Christmas time this year, at the earliest. Many of the early 4K displays (especially those sold in 2013) lack HDCP 2.2 support so they will not be able to access any content that requires HDCP 2.2 protection.

Crestron Adheres to 2.2

In order to distribute HDCP 2.2 protected content, the entire signal chain from source to display must support it, including any transmitters, input and output cards, and receivers. All of Crestron’s current and latest 4K endpoints, card-based switchers, and cables support HDCP 2.2. Because the modular DigitalMedia™ switchers (8x8, 16x16 and higher) have all been designed for future proofing, the chassis already supports HDCP 2.2.

If you already own DigitalMedia™ 2K products, Crestron makes it easy to upgrade to HDCP 2.2 compatible products by simply swapping input and output cards.

With the constant evolution of technology, Crestron is ready and able to support our customers and product installations in the field. Crestron will do whatever it takes to support 4K viewing with the most complete line of 2.2 compatible Crestron products and solutions for the ultimate media viewing experience.
