I Can Make Salsa With My iPad 2

Now that we have gotten our hands on the iPad 2 we can’t stop thinking about when Stephen Colbert received his first iPad and displayed its salsa making capabilities.  Not much has been added to the second iPad edition to get us any closer to making salsa, but there is still a lot more you can do with the update.

9to5mac.com discovered that with the use of the new smart cover the lighter iPad 2 doubles as a great fridge magnet.  We say download the Crestron mobile application and your iPad 2 becomes your new kitchen touch panel.

Follow Jordan C’s idea and engrave your iPad 2 for the perfect wedding proposal. (She said yes).

With just a few extras anyone can turn their iPad2 into their own X-ray machine.

There are definitely some interesting and unique ways to use the new iPad.  We can only begin to imagine the new features it may bring to an iPad controlled Crestron system.

Certification – Without it you’re Certifiable

Crestron Announces new Certification Requirements

Trust, confidence, authority.  Do those words describe how you feel about your skills, is it how potential clients see you?

You may recall the Norman Rockwell painting of the young boy in a doctor’s room, critically examining the wall hung diploma while the doctor prepares a shot? This is how your clients are looking at you and your company.  They need to be sure that the investment in your services has a foundation.

Qualifications matter. Just think about your own business, when you are deciding between two technicians one with certification and one without-  which are you going to hire?

This week we announced an updated list of certification requirements for all new dealers.  The purpose is to build a better-educated and trained community of installers.   The AV business is a funny thing, many of us started off during our late teen years, turning a passion into a career, doing the yeoman’s work – rising from apprentice to leader.   The process is still a valued one, working beside and learning from those who have spent their lives perfecting skills. Today’s system integration requires an in-depth knowledge set that cannot be fully taught with only on the job site exposure.

We have the easy part, teaching.  You have the grunt work of learning then demonstrating the knowledge. That hard work and dedication brings you a lot of rewards – respect from your coworkers, trust of your clients, the confidence to act decisively when issues arise and priority support from Crestron.

Crestron extensively trains our staff but we also expect them to pursue higher levels of certification outside the CTI curriculum. All of our technical support staff are required to earn a Infocomm International Certified Technical Specialist (CTS) certification shortly after they are hired, if they have not already achieved this.  We also encourage our support people to peruse higher certifications such as Cisco CCNA, TIA and CTS-D or CTS-I.  We are dedicated to providing you the best customer support period.

We have been committed, since the start, to providing you with the most comprehensive training, making Crestron dealers industry elites, even our Crestron DM certification is fast becoming an industry standard.

Qualifications matter, it is a crazy business and without certification, you’re certifiable.

She Said YES! A Very Crestron Proposal

Marriage proposal made via Crestron distribution system and touch panel

We found this video today that intrigued and made us smile.  Really smile wide.

Ilya Kandibur of Superior AV systems proposed to his long time girlfriend with some creativity, humor and just a bit of help from his Crestron system.
.
Ilya takes it from here:
.
I am a Crestron dealer out of Southern California , so I was lucky enough to have the kind of equipment available in our home to pull it off. We have a demonstration theater upstairs as well as a 12" video panel downstairs in the kitchen area. My girlfriend was celebrating her 33rd birthday at the house and it was a pretty large party (about 30 people orso) with a "Breakfast at Tiffany's" theme. Part of the event was watching that film in our theater.

I put together the video well in advance and programmed the 8X in the theater and the TPS5K panel downstairs to run the show. The DVD player has a video feed into the downstairs panel so I could control and monitor without being in the room with them. Once I executed the code it stopped their movie and switched over to my video I prepared. I knew not everyone would want to watch the movie upstairs, so the rest of us all gathered downstairs around the panel and watched the same video unfold with the audio coming from the ceiling speakers courtesy of the PAD8.
Once I popped the question and everyone went nuts, I paused the video and used another button that took the 8X in the theater out of standby, raised the lights and changed to the page with the marriage proposal question. I had live feedback for when she pressed YES on the panel which I could see downstairs, which then continued the video. After that it was pretty much getting our dog to run into the room in sync with when it happened in the video and then I walked in shortly afterward.
