Powering Crestron's CEDIA 2011 Digital Signage

The centerpiece to this year’s Crestron CEDIA booth was our pretty impressive digital signage. Cycling through several branded motion graphics, the video wall caught the attention of many of the tradeshow attendees. The video wall was made up of 2 identical clusters of 12 display panels, each connected to DigitalMedia 8G fiber room boxes. Serving the video to a 32x32 DigitalMedia Switcher (DM-MD32x32) were 12 Sony Playstation 3s running Sony’s Ziris digital signage software. Yep, you heard that correctly – 12 Playstation 3s. Another PS3 was used to sync the timing to create a seamless image across all of the displays. Who knew?

Check out our video feature on our digital signage.

In addition to handing out our own Integration Awards at this year's CEDIA EXPO 2011, we also had the pleasure of walking away from the show with some hardware of our own. Crestron was widely recognized for achievements in new product development and technology innovation by industry peers and trade press, winning five awards at CEDIA EXPO 2011 last week in Indianapolis. Experts from CEDIA and the most popular residential custom electronics publications selected the best of the best from thousands of products in a variety of categories.

Create Your Own Sports Bar…at Home

One of the biggest hits at CEDIA Expo 2011 was the “Interactive Sports Bar” demo we set up in our booth. Using 8 of our brand new V24 touch screen displays and a 42” CyberTouch display (plus a DVPHD, DM-MD16x16, DGE-2, DM-TX-201-C, and a MC3), we managed to take watching the football game to a whole new level. Whether swiping video sources from the V24s to the main display or drawing up a play during 4th down using the built-in telestrator, visitors to our booth couldn’t help but wish it were a football Sunday. Oh, and did we mention you could also control your home from the displays as well?

The Crestron Interactive Sports Bar: we'll provide the technology, you provide the beer.

CEDIA Expo 2011 Day 1 Recap

Day 1 of CEDIA Expo 2011 is in the books and there was certainly a lot of activity in the Crestron booth. In addition to viewing the first two sessions of our new Innovative Insights series, attendees also had their first chance to take a look at new products like our V24 touch panel and Mobile Pro G for Android. Here’s a recap of day 1 at the booth:

Innovative Insights

Kicking off our Innovative Insights series was Kevin Lambidonis, CEO of DES, Inc. Kevin spoke about the use of the iPad in home control and detailed his experience in developing a custom iPad app that controlled a newly integrated Crestron control system. Kevin believes that mobile control is here to stay and we’ll be seeing more use of mobile devices as auxiliary controllers.

Dave Raines, President of Osbee, was our second speaker in the Innovative Insights series and spoke about total home control. Dave lives by the mantra that it’s his duty to “simplify the complex” and told the crowd that Crestron’s reliability and ease of use makes his job a lot easier. Video of both of these talks will be posted here shortly.

Booth Highlights

This year’s CEDIA booth was chock full of visitors throughout the first day, but it seemed like larger crowds were gathering around a few new additions to the booth. Our “Interactive Sports Bar” features a 42” CyberTouch display surrounded by 8 of our new V24-C HD touch panels.  Watching football on Sundays just went to a whole new level.

Attendees also could not stop playing around with our new Core 3 UI on a 65” CyberTouch display. In addition to providing full home control, the giant display also allowed users to view video sources, browse the internet, and virtually travel the world using full touch maps powered by Microsoft’s Bing.

Crestron CEDIA Tweetup

Our 2nd Annual CEDIA Tweetup took place at High Velocity in the JW Marriott and provided a unique opportunity for our social media followers to socialize and network over free drinks and food. Congratulations to Sarah Fleishman of Access Networks, for winning a Flip HD video camera. Photos from the event will be posted shortly. Stay tuned.
